ALBERT G. NICKEL- PROFILE

It was in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania that the subject spent his early years, and lived there through high school. He earned his A.B. degree and graduated from Washington and Jefferson College in 1965. He went directly to graduate school as a full time student and earned a M.B.A. degree from Indiana University in 1967.

After a short stint in the United States Air Force, he ultimately was promoted to Captain in the Air Force Reserves. From that he went on to full time business employment with Pfizer, Inc. The positions he held were Market Research Analyst, Professional Sales Representative, Marketing Research Manager, Assistant Product Manager, and Product Manager.

In order to gain international experience, he then went to USV International as a Product Manager, integrating the marketing efforts of five newly acquired subsidiary operations in five different countries, as well as coordinating the efforts of multiple licensees.

With the lure of an advertising career, he then became an Account Executive with the Deltakos Division of J. Walter Thompson. After having worked on the Lilly and Ethicon accounts as an Account Supervisor, he then went to the healthcare advertising subsidiary of Young & Rubicam, Inc., Sudler & Hennessey.

The initial assignments at Sudler & Hennessey were products of the Roerig and Pfizer Laboratories Divisions of Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. With the promotion to Vice President, responsibilities were expanded to handle all the marketed products for Stuart Pharmaceuticals and the medical promotion for Sanka Coffee, as well as medical advertising and promotion consultation for many products and situations for the General Foods Corporation. In addition to handling all the marketed products for Stuart, he helped introduce two new products, which achieved superior results. As an Account Group Supervisor, responsibility for McNeil Laboratories was also assumed, with Account Supervisors reporting to him. With his continuing efforts on the Smart, General Foods and McNeil accounts, his company officership was elevated to Senior Vice President in December 1977.

In order to participate in the final destiny and ownership of a healthcare advertising agency, he became a founding principal of Dorritie & Lyons, Inc. in 1979. In June of 1990 the firm recognized his participation and contributions with his name added to become Dorritie Lyons & Nickel, Inc. In June 1991, with his responsibilities broadening, he was named President, Chief Operating Officer. In December 1994, in order to expand the operation of the firm with vastly expanded capabilities as part of the Ornnicom Network, Dorritie Lyons & Nickel, Inc. merged with Lavey Wolfe & Swift, Inc. to form Lyons Lavey Nickel Swift, Inc. and he was named President, Chief Operating Officer. His responsibilities broadened further as his contributions to the past success of HMC through his leadership devoted to Lyons Lavey Nickel Swift, the largest business group within HMC, were recognized and he was named President, CEO of thc HMC Group within the Omnicom Network in 1999 and Chairman and CEO of LLNS in 2000.

He is a member of a number of industry and business organizations such as the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers Association and served on the Board of Directors from 1994-1996, The Healthcare Marketing & Communications Council and served on the Board from 1994 through 1996, the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association as a corporate supporter and the Board of Directors of the American Council on Science and Health.

Al is married and is the father of 3 children. He resides in Wilton, Connecticut and is active in various community organizations and serves as a trustee for the Wilton YMCA, as a trustee for Dominican College and as a Director of the Five Town Community Fund and on the foundation board of the Visiting Nurse Association. He was a member of the Wilton High School Long-Range Planning Committee and was a member of the board of the Wilton Lacrosse Association. He currently is a member of the Wilton Riding Club and served as a past president and is also a member of Silver Spring Country Club. His personal interests include participation sports such as tennis, golf, biking, platform tennis, skiing and running. He also enjoys the thrill and adventure of other exhilarating experiences such as helicopter skiing and mountain climbing, as well as traveling through out the United States and somewhat around the world.
